Forging Ahead Together: Contribute To The Future Of Our Health Care
Dear Donor,
The past year has been filled with extremity, to say the least. We’ve faced many challenges, uncertainties, and collective grief for life as we knew it. While the headlines have been nothing short of harrowing, the response has been so deeply inspiring.
Communities have come together, businesses have adapted and innovated for the greater good, and our healthcare heroes have shown, day after day, just how resilient people can be. If nothing else, we can find a little hope through the heavy without having to look very hard.
While there’s been a great deal of hardship recently, there have also been many significant milestones and achievements that deserve celebration. With that, we are so proud to announce that we’ve reached our fundraising goal of $1,500,000 for the ‘Feels Like Home’ enhancement of the Golden Eagle View Long-Term Care Unit. We asked, and you answered. We did it! While the world collectively navigates uncertainty, we are actively working to offer our residents comfort and consistency in the place they call home. Construction has officially begun and that is entirely thanks to our donors.
‘Feels Like Home’ is the Foundation’s largest capital campaign and not only is it a huge, remarkable achievement for the Foundation and the community, it’s an example of what we’re capable of when we come together. While we celebrate this monumental milestone, we’d like to use this opportunity to keep our momentum going.

This year, we are asking for your support in the Area of Greatest Need. If recent history has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t always predict the future. Therefore, our decision to call for unrestricted donations this year will allow us to be nimble and move funds where they are needed most. Supporting the area of greatest need means trusting the experts at the Canmore General Hospital and leaning into the knowledge and experience of Barb Shellian, Director of Bow Valley Community and Rural Health, who began as a Nurse at the Canmore Hospital over four decades ago.
Every member of this community has spent time at the Canmore General Hospital either for their own health reasons or to visit a loved one. While we navigate massive global shifts, social movements, and economic instability, philanthropy is of the utmost importance. Though, it can be difficult to decide when, how, and where to contribute. We’re taking this opportunity to ask you to look to the needs of those closest to you and support your community’s healthcare system and staff.
We know what you are capable of, we have unwavering confidence in this little town of ours, and we need you to help us help you and your loved ones.
When you donate to the Area of Greatest Need, there are several funds to which your donation may go. Some examples include Cancer Care, Emergency Department, Operating Room, Acute Care, Home Care, Palliative Care, and more.
Donations to the Area of Greatest Need fund could help replace an invaluable piece of medical equipment, push more resources to funds like the Emergency Department, Operating Room, Cancer Clinic, Acute Care, or help support staff and volunteers in unprecedented times. These donations are imperative, now more than ever, and we ask that you consider contributing as you can make a real difference.
We are proud to know you, proud to share this community with you, and proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together. We can’t thank you enough.
Yours in community and togetherness.
Sincerely,
Soulafa Al-Abbasi
Executive Director, Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation
P.S. When you arrive at the donation drop-down menu, we ask that you select the Area of Greatest Need. Or, should you be interested in contributing to other areas, our Emergency Department and Endowment Fund are two other encouraged options.
P.P.S. If you feel especially passionate about a fund listed in the drop-down menu, your donations are of course always welcomed and so very appreciated. We invite you to select any fund(s) you desire. Your (restricted and unrestricted) donations will always make an impact in our community and beyond.
