Annual CAHCF Charity Golf Tournament 2024 *SOLD OUT* - Register For Dinner

The Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation (CAHCF) golf tournament is held annually at Silvertip Golf Course in support of the Canmore General Hospital. This year marks the 20th year of our charity tournament and proceeds will be used for our community’s most critical cause yet – revitalizing the hospital’s emergency department.

Canmore General Hospital was built in the 1984 and key areas of the facility, including the two surgical suites, remain unchanged. Thirty-nine years ago, the Bow Valley was a much smaller community, and the delivery of health care was much different.

In summer/fall 2023 two new surgeons were hired to support Canmore General Hospital’s surgical program. Dr. Matt Muirhead has already joined the surgical team and will be joined by his colleague in the new year.

Dr Muirhead and the surgical staff have identified the current surgical equipment needs:

  • Cameras (4K), telescope and monitor: $56,800

  • Bipolar resectoscopes: $23,600

  • Hasson cannula and trocars: $6,250

  • Omni hysteroscopes: $9,800.00

The combined cost of this equipment is approximately $100,000.00

Sooner or later, we all depend on the emergency department. And when we do, we want the best possible outcome for ourselves and our loved ones. That’s why we’re asking for your support this year!

Join us as an individual, team, sponsor, donor, or dinner guest! Or, all of the above.

Chemo and Cougars: My Journey with Cancer as a Wildlife Photographer

Chemo and Cougars: My Journey with Cancer as a Wildlife Photographer

Join the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation for an extraordinary evening at artsPlace as they host "Chemo and Cougars: My Journey with Cancer as a Wildlife Photographer," featuring the renowned wildlife photographer, John E. Marriott. This unique event promises an inspiring, emotional, and visually stunning multimedia presentation that traces John's remarkable journey with cancer.

At "Chemo and Cougars," John will share his story and showcase his images from the past year. From cougars to grizzly bears, muskox, and more, he will take you on a visual journey, offering insights into the beauty of the wild and his personal triumph over adversity.

The Journey

John Marriott's remarkable journey takes a deeply personal turn. In September 2022, he received a devastating double diagnosis of colon and kidney cancer. In November 2022, he underwent a seven-hour surgery to remove his left kidney and a significant portion of his colon. Following the surgery, in December 2022, he embarked on a gruelling five-month cycle of eight rounds of chemotherapy at the Canmore clinic.

What sets John's journey apart is his unwavering determination not to be a victim of his circumstances. Throughout his chemotherapy, he continued doing what he loved - capturing the untamed beauty of the Canadian wilderness. John's incredible resilience led to winter hikes in temperatures as low as -34°C, tracking cougars, and photographing nature's wonders while enduring the harsh effects of chemotherapy.

One of the world's leading wildlife photographers

John E. Marriott has captured stunning images of wildlife in the Banff and Canmore area. Notably, his work adorns the local ROAM wildlife buses, showcasing his deep connection with the region's natural beauty.

In 2012, John was honored as the Runner-Up in the Portraits category of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, a prestigious recognition in the wildlife photography world. His image of a raven, titled "Fluff-Up," became the primary marketing image for the 2013 world tour.

Supporting a Worthy Cause

The presentation serves as a fundraiser for the Canmore Cancer Clinic, in partnership with the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation and artsPlace. The Canmore Cancer Clinic, located in the Canmore Hospital, plays a crucial role in providing local chemotherapy treatments and support services to patients throughout the Bow Valley region.

The Foundation provides up to $50,000 annually to offset the costs of Cancer Care Clinic programming, including services like massage therapy, transportation assistance, and grocery vouchers. These services are vital to the well-being of cancer patients and their caregivers in the community.

Your attendance and contributions to "Chemo and Cougars" will directly support the Cancer Clinic and these essential programs, making a significant difference in the lives of those affected by cancer in the Bow Valley.

Join us for this exceptional evening of inspiration, wildlife photography, and a celebration of resilience, all for a noble cause. Together, we can make a difference and help the Canmore Cancer Clinic continue its essential work.

Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to be a part of an unforgettable journey - one of hope, courage, and the wild beauty of the Canadian Rockies!

The Heart Of It: Charity Barre & Flow Class At WildHeart

The Heart Of It: Charity Barre & Flow Class At WildHeart

Join us on Saturday, August 12th for The Heart of It, a charity Barre class at WildHeart in Canmore, Alberta. Led by Brit Burr, this Heartbeat Barre class is an energetic, cardio-focused workout followed by a heart-opening flow. Proceeds from this special class will go toward the purchase of an essential piece of cardiac equipment for the Canmore General Hospital. Hosted by The Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation, this class is free to register, with donations being accepted at the door.

The mission of the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation is to provide charitable financial resources for the continuing improvement of the facilities and services of the Canmore General Hospital. This special event is raising funds for a Carescape Central Monitoring System (both the station and the monitors), which helps to monitor the hearts of patients, offering patients and their caregivers an increased ability to make sound decisions and to receive the best possible care. The Carescape system will be used in the renovated emergency room of the Canmore Hospital. Renovations are already underway, and the project is expected to be completed by fall 2024.

The Carescape system has an estimated cost of $95,000, and the Foundation still needs about $20,000 to get across the finish line. By participating in The Heart of It, your donations will directly support the purchase of this equipment and the heart health of the Bow Valley community.

If you haven’t been to a Barre class before, you can expect a fun Pilates and Yoga inspired practice that combines dance, ballet, toning exercise, cardio, and multi-functional movements all set to music. No dance or Barre experience is needed. Expect to target all areas of the body during the workout portion of the class and finish with a relaxing stretch and flow that is meant to open the heart, chest, shoulders, and spine.

Donations can be made in cash or via card upon arrival. Be sure to reserve your spot through the MindBody app to save your spot. If you’ve never been to WildHeart before, you will be prompted to fill out a waiver online via MindBody, or you can do so in person when you arrive.

Come explore movement and have fun, all for a great cause. Click here to register and meet us at WildHeart on August 12th!

NOTE: Donations will be matched up to 50% through the Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink program.
